NCEMNA 5th Annual Conference
Creating
Research Careers:
"Leading
the Way"
March 13-15, 2009
Dear Prospective
Mentee,
The National
Coalition of Ethnic Minority Nurse Association (NCEMNA), a coalition
of five leading national minority nursing associations, is committed
to increasing the number of ethnic minority nurse researchers
initiating, conducting, and maintaining programs of research by
offering supplemental training and educational opportunities.
To increase the
number of ethnic minority nurse researchers, NCEMNA aims to create a
network of ethnic minority nurse researchers, develop mechanisms to
support and engage ethnic minority nurse researchers at all levels
and engage ethnic minority students to consider nursing research as
a career trajectory. Supported by a federal grant from the National
Institute of General and Medical Sciences (NIGMS), NCEMNA has
implemented a Research Training and Mentoring (RTM) program that
includes a matching of mentors and mentees, according to research
interests and geographical location. The goal is to increase the
number of ethnic minority nurse researchers, who are prepared to
conduct research within a culturally competent model of care.
We are now
accepting applications for our fourth cohort of mentor-mentee pairs.
If you are interested in participating in NCEMNA’s RTM program,
focused on creating research career in nursing, please complete
the Mentee Application at
http://www.ncemna.org/mentee. Your response will be used
to help us in selecting 50 mentees to participate in this
significant research training and mentoring program. It is
therefore important for you to be clear in describing your current
interest in research and your personal goals for participating in
NCEMNA’s RTM program. Application deadline is October 1, 2008.
Please note that if you were a 2005, 2006, or 2007 mentee, you are
not eligible to apply for 2008 mentee appointment.
Selected mentee
applicants will be notified between November 17-21, 2008 and
acceptance deadline is December 8, 2008. Please note that if
selected, you will be required to attend the 2-1/2 day NCEMNA Annual
Conference “Creating Research
Careers: Leading the Way" in
Albuquerque, NM March 13-15, 2009.
Please submit
